🔥Fired MOH (Part 1)
A week ago, a woman named Britney called me out of the blue.
She was a friend of a friend and when I picked up the phone, she was in tears.
“Jen, I just got fired as a maid of honor.”
I wish this was the first time I heard a sentence like that. But it wasn't.
In my 9-years of being a professional bridesmaid, I've been hired many times because the bride decided to take the role away from her best friend.
It happens more often than you think.
Sometimes, it's warranted.
A maid of honor trying to sabotage a wedding.
A maid of honor who doesn't respond to any calls, emails, or texts for months
A maid of honor who is super flirtatious with the groom
A maid of honor who is just mean.
I've seen all those things happen before.
But then there are times when a bride fires her maid of honor for a reason that just isn't right.
The maid of honor can't afford all of the things the bride wants her to pay for.
The maid of honor is busy but tries her best to support the bride when she can.
In Britney's case, it was because the bride started to act differently and treat her in a mean way. Britney pulled back and became scared of her friend. She took a passive role and the bride didn't like that. They fought a lot and the friendship was suffering. The bride made the decision to ask Britney to no longer be her maid of honor. She said she was still invited to the wedding but Britney isn't sure she wants to go.
Brit and I chatted about this for 20-minutes. I didn't tell her what to do. I just listened to how she was feeling.
If Britney called you, what would you say? What would you tell her?
And, has this ever happened to you?
Hit reply, let me know.
I'll tell you what Britney decided to do in next week's newsletter.
