🔎 Missing Bride in a Connecticut Casino
A couple hours into her bachelorette party, the bride pulled me aside and gave me a hug.
“Thank you for being here,” she said, calmly. “I feel like tonight is going to be a really, really, good time.”
That's when I knew something was very, very wrong.
I had known the bride for 6-months. We had spent hours on the phone together and met up once in person. She was, by no means, a chill kind of gal.
I learned that she had a temper. I heard how she got angry fast. She told me that she lacked patience. She admitted her nickname is “slappy” because she's been in one too many slap fights.
So when she hugged me and exhaled, I wondered:
What is about to happen and how do I stop it?
We were staying at a casino in Connecticut. The group was sticking together. The bride and her cousin were attached at the hip. The two friends didn't know each other but had slowly started to click. I floated between everyone.
Every friend group has that one person who keeps the night moving. Who can sense when things are dragging on or getting boring and suggests something fun to do next.
That was me. When dinner was hitting the 2-hour mark, I got the check and suggested we head to the lounge by the slot machines. When gambling hit its high moment, and the bride was up $300, I asked her if she wanted a change of scenery, and we headed to the club.
When the music was blah, I asked the group for song requests, and brought them to the DJ.
That's when it happened. When it alllllll went downhill, fast.
The DJ ditched his playlist for ours. We were all dancing. Letting loose. Having a really good time. I was dancing with the two friends, the bride was dancing with her cousin. I looked down at my phone for a minute. Checked some text messages. Took a selfie with the girls.
And that's when I noticed, that's when I looked around, scanned the dance floor, and saw:
The bride went missing.
“Wait, where is she?” I asked her friends.
They shook their heads and kept dancing.
I walked around the club.
No bride. No cousin.
I went into the bathroom. Shouted her name.
I took off my heels. Ran around the casino. Dialed her phone. Called the cousin. It went straight to voicemail.
Where did they go? Why did they leave? Would I find them?
Of course, eventually, I did.
It's just that when I did, I was shocked at what I saw.
And I wonder, if you saw what I did, what you would have done.
Stay tuned…in the next newsletter, I'll share what happened and I'll ask for your advice.
